WESLEY QUINN and I's first trip to Swannanoa back in Nov 2024 made us both realize that the devastation was far beyond what we had seen in Greenville just an hour and a half away. In the media, we were hard pressed to find outlets telling the people's stories and how it impacted them, rather than just the damage. You hear all these stories of "how bad it is up there" but there's nothing like putting boots on the ground and seeing it, especially a month removed from it. The more people we encountered that day the more we came to realize the need to create a piece for the people by the people to raise awareness across the nation. Why have so many people forgotten? We teamed up with Brian French in December to give people dignified interviews about their struggles and the hope to come. Ultimately, we tried to put the focus on the rebuild which is happening now and could take years. This story is so far from over and WNC is rebuilding.
